Major warning for Irish EuroMillions players ahead of mega €250million draw TONIGHT as maximum jackpot reached

IRISH punters have shared what they would do if they won the EuroMillions – as the jackpot sits at a staggering €250million.

National Lottery bosses are urging players to remember the 7.30pm cut-off time to buy tickets for this evening’s draw.

And this draw is extra special, as the jackpot is capped at €250million.

The EuroMillions jackpot hit the maximum cap on Friday, June 6 and cannot grow any further.

In a draw with a cap, any excess money that would usually be added to the jackpot will move down to the next prize level where there are winners.

If no one wins the breathtaking sum tonight, the jackpot will remain at €250million for up to two more draws.

If there are no winners in these two other draws, it must be won on Friday June 20.

On the fifth draw, if no one wins the entire jackpot, it will roll down to the next prize level where there are winners.

Players can pick up tickets for tonight’s draw in-store, through the National Lottery app or at http://www.lottery.ie.

But tickets must be bought before the 7.30pm cut-off time.

And ahead of the draw, Lotto bosses revealed the findings of a survey carried out amongst punters.

It focused on what they would do if they won the jackpot.

Speaking about the findings, a spokesperson for the National Lottery said: “The results from the survey show a nation full of heart, hope and generosity – from supporting family and community to chasing life-long passions.”

The main theme of the findings was generosity – with 52 per cent saying they would donate between 10 and 25 per cent of their winnings to others.

In average, the donations added up to 23.8 per cent.

24 per cent said they would invest in their local community and give something back.

Over two thirds (71 per cent) of respondents said they would buy a house for every member of their family.

A huge 64 per cent said they would explore the world, while 52 per cent said they would visit places they have dreamed of, including the Seven Wonders of the World.

And two per cent said they would use their winnings to travel to space.

Some 66 per cent said they would switch careers if they won, with many saying they would pursue their dream job or passion project.

Other survey findings included 60 per cent buying their dream home in Ireland or abroad, but the survey also revealed that there was low interest in flashy spending.

Only seven per cent said they would sign three of the world’s best footballers for their favourite team, while just six per cent revealed they would buy out a stadium to watch their favourite team play.

But there were a number of wacky answers too, including:

  • Build a three-bedroom house just for my dog
  • Buy my own chocolate factory
  • Build a helipad in my garden and hire a pilot to fly friends and family around the country
  • Buy an entire airport so I can travel at a moment’s notice
  • Hire three top footballers for a season to help my club
  • Install a gold toilet—because why not?
  • Construct my own private golf course
  • Secure a lifetime supply of fizzy drinks

National Lottery spokesperson, Darragh O’Dwyer said: “With the EuroMillions jackpot now capped at an extraordinary €250million, we’re seeing dreams take flight – both big and small.

“From building homes for loved ones to planning once-in-a-lifetime adventures, this survey shows just how imaginative and generous Irish players are when it comes to dreaming big.

“And with the jackpot at its maximum, any additional prize money that would normally increase the jackpot, will now flow down to increase the value of the next prize tier at which there are winner(s) meaning possibly more chances for life-changing wins.

“If there’s no jackpot winner tonight, the prize will stay at €250 million for up to two more draws, culminating in a Must Be Won draw on Friday, 20th June.

“It’s an incredibly exciting time to play.”

Olympic rider, 66, filmed striking horse ’40 times’ in ‘most awful video’ banned a year on from Charlotte Dujardin shame

AUSSIE former Olympian Heath Ryan has been suspended following the emergence of a distressing video in which he can be seen whipping a horse around 40 times.

Ryan, 66, represented Australia in dressage at Beijing 2008.

Equestrian Australia have since suspended the Sydney-born rider, while launching an official investigation into the online video.

Their statement read: “Equestrian Australia is extremely alarmed and concerned by the treatment of the horse shown in this footage.

“Our policies include high standards to protect all participants and their horses against any adverse physical, social, and emotional conditions.”

In a lengthy Facebook post, Ryan claimed that he had been trying to save the horse, named Nico, from being put down – and that the footage was taken around two years ago.

An excerpt of his post read: “Oh my goodness! The most awful video of me on a young horse has just surfaced.

“This horse was dropped off at my place on his way to the knackery. His name is Nico. He was 6 years of age. A beautiful type.

“(After the events of the video) I rode Nico for another couple of days and he responded very well.

“All of this transpired sincerely with the horse’s best interests the sole consideration.

“I need to add that this happened about two years ago…..and the video has been posted by an unhappy ex-employee.

“All I can say is that this awful video was collateral damage of me from the bottom of my heart launching a rescue mission.”

Ryan went on to add: “I am so sad this was caught on video. If I had been thinking of myself I would have immediately just gotten off and sent Nico to the knackery.

“That video was a life or death moment for Nico and I genuinely had to try my very hardest to see if Nico would consider other options.

“All of this transpired sincerely with the horse’s best interests the sole consideration. Unbelievably it was so successful for everyone except me with the release of this video.”

DUJARDIN CONTROVERSY

Last summer, decorated British Olympian Charlotte Dujardin pulled out of the Paris Games just days before after video footage emerged of her whipping a horse.

Dujardin, 39, was subsequently handed a one-year ban by the International Federation for Equestrian Sports.

The three-time Olympic gold medallist subsequently released a statement, in which she revealed that she was pregnant.

It read: “I fully respect the verdict issued by the Federation for Equestrian Sports (FEI), released today.

“As the federation has recognised, my actions in the video do not reflect who I am and I can only apologise again.

“I understand the responsibility that comes with my position in the sport, and I will forever aim to do better. This has undoubtedly been one of the darkest and most difficult periods of my life, and I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who has supported me during this time.

“To those of you who have sent messages, emails and tried to reach me to check in on how I am – thank you. Every kind word truly has made a difference, more than you’ll ever know.

“What I was unable to share at the time is that I am currently pregnant, with my baby due in February.

“This was planned well before the Olympics and something my partner Dean and I have been excited about for a long time.

“At the moment, the energy I have is focused on Dean and our daughter Isabella, and we are all very much looking forward to the arrival of our new family member.”

Amazon Prime subscribers rage over ‘annoying’ change affecting TV shows and say they will ‘definitely be cancelling’

PRIME viewers may start to notice more ads when watching their favourite shows and movies as Amazon ramps up changes.

Adverts were first introduced onto the platform in January last year, with an option to pay extra if you want to avoid them.

Users say streaming is morphing into cable TV[/caption]

They started at around two to three minutes per hour.

But it appears to be have been quietly doubled.

Sources told AdWeek that the number of ads has gradually increased to four to six minutes per hour.

A spokesperson for Amazon responded to the publication, saying “Our commitment is to improving ad experiences rather than simply increasing the number of ads shown.

“While demand continues to grow, our commitment is to improving ad experiences rather than simply increasing the number of ads shown.”

But users have already started raging about the quiet change and are threatening to cancel their subscription as a result.

“My Prime account is up for renewal in August,” one person wrote on Reddit.

“I will definitely be cancelling.

“Not only are the ads numerous, they are sometimes double in volume (loudness). I can’t always hit the mute button fast enough.”

Another said: ” It’s always take take take. Take and squeeze as much as possible.”

A third added: “Canceled this c**p as soon as they announced ads in the first place.

“People keep paying for these services that continue to get worse and more expensive. That’s the real problem.”

SWITCH TO FREE STREAMING

By Jamie Harris, Assistant Technology and Science Editor

If you’re tired of paying out on several streaming services like Netflix and Disney+ then there are a growing number of free alternatives around.

While many of these alternatives have been filled with obscure content, more big names like Sky have got on board in recent years offering some quality stuff, which is largely archive but still entertaining.

As well as UKTV, Sony and 5 are among the other players getting involved.

If you haven’t already, give Pluto TV a go, it’s available on pretty much all devices including Fire TV Sticks.

On there you’ll find channels from MTV, with Catfish and Geordie Shore.

Some of the classics are real gems too – I found myself watching long-forgotten episodes of Sabrina the Teenage Witch the other day.

Five eye-catching Royal Ascot jockey bookings including 17-year-old with ‘glowing reputation’ and ‘greatest of all time’

IN the absolute punting minefield that is Royal Ascot, sometimes the best way to go is picking a jockey and sticking with them.

Recent history shows following that principle with Ryan Moore won’t serve you too badly.

Ryan Moore will be the jockey of choice for almost everyone at Royal Ascot – but a load of other names make plenty of appeal too[/caption]

But with runners from Japan, America and almost every corner of the globe, there will be some new names – and old – to get your head around at the Berkshire track.

A load of jockey bookings are being added to the racecards now, so it looks like the perfect time to strike.

Here, I take a look at five of the most eye-catching rides ahead of the five-day festival.

1 James McDonald

Look, we all know that in this hemisphere, at least, Ryan Moore is the best jockey.

James McDonald will pick up some very interesting spare rides for Wathnan[/caption]

But Down Under they are of the firm opinion that McDonald, with 119 Group 1s to his name, is the king.

Trainer Chris Waller even said Macca will be remembered as ‘the greatest of all time’.

Well, to do that he is going to need some Royal Ascot winners!

And he just might after the big-spending Wathnan Racing operation snapped him up for some rides.

James Doyle is Wathnan’s No1 but McDonald, along with Will Buick, will deputise.

And McDonald looks like he will ride the likes of Underwriter in the Coventry and Aesterius in the King Charles III.

Away from that squad, McDonald will ride Carl Spackler, who is a 20-1 chance in the blockbuster Queen Anne, the first race on day one.

2 Warren Fentiman

This 5lb claimer – son of journeyman jockey Duran – is riding out of his skin and worth following wherever he goes.

Still only 17 and with a ‘glowing reputation’, Fentiman is an interesting booking on Richard Fahey’s Ramazan in the Buckingham Palace Stakes.

If all goes well and he gets in the field, Fentiman’s allowance will come in handy for this intriguing handicap-dropper.

Fentiman beat his old man in a race during the Chester May Festival and won the three-year-old Dash at Epsom on Derby weekend.

His red-hot form could land him an Ascot winner too after he was booked for Gavin Cromwell’s brilliant My Mate Mozzie in the Copper Horse Handicap on Tuesday.

3 Colin Keane

Juddmonte’s new No1 has one of the best jobs in racing.

Keane is a six-time champion in Ireland but may not be massively familiar to British punters.

This week could change all that.

Among his big book of rides if St James’s Palace good thing Field Of Gold, Lockinge winner Lead Artist in the Queen Anne and Babouche in the Commonwealth Cup.

4 Faleh Bughenaim

Hailed as ‘the best jockey in Qatar’, Faleh will have a big ride for Wathnan in the Royal Hunt Cup aboard Jeff Koons.

Faleh has just one win from 16 rides in Britain in his career but you can be sure the Emir of Qatar, who owns Wathnan, will have lined up a good one for his country’s top star.

5 Christophe Soumillon

‘Super Sou’ has ridden winners all over the world – but it could be the Royal Hunt Cup where he gets his Ascot one this year.

The legendary rider has been jocked up on Greek Order, a fascinating and lightly-raced five-year-old contender trained by Michael Bell.

Greek Order was owned by Juddmonte until last month when he changed hands for around £80,000.

He’s currently 25-1 for the 30-runner cavalry charge but could go off much shorter on the day.
