Taking to Instagram on Tuesday night, the former Corrie star, who played Katy Harris in the hit ITV soap, shared a photo of her in a hospital bed.

“Not my usual post,” Lucy-Jo penned in the caption.

She then said: “But with it being National Blood Week I wanted to share something with you.”

Opening up about her hospital dash, Lucy-Jo explained: “2 years ago I was rushed into A&E.

“I was constantly exhausted, running on empty, struggling to breath, low mood, really struggling in my overall mental and physical health, and I just put it down to the fast pace of life.

“Because in today’s world you’re expected to be able to juggle it all right?

“And the daily stresses of being a working mum, and spinning a million plates is blumming stressful…..”

She then added: “But what I didn’t realise is that the reason I was feeling all of this is because I had an underlying health issue…. Chronic Anaemia.”

Lucy-Jo then revealed that this meant she was “in desperate need of a blood transfusion”.

Going into even more detail, she said: “It turned out that my haemoglobin levels were that dangerously low I needed 2 transfusions and I was kept in hospital for a few days so they could keep on eye on my levels.”

Speaking about the medical team that treated her, Lucy praised the staff at Salford Royal Hospital and gushed over how “amazing” they were.

“I really felt I was in the best hands, especially Dr Rob Jackson, he was unbelievable and I’ll always be so grateful to him and his team in the A&E department,” she said.

Lucy-Jo then thanked everyone who donates blood, saying: “I know from the NHS that just one of your donations can save up to 3 lives…. Mine included.”

She went on: “Blood donations save lives every day, they are needed in emergencies, during operations, childbirth, in the treatment of cancer and sickle cell disease, the list is endless.

What is Anaemia?

According to the NHS, Anaemia is a common condition “where the number of red blood cells or the amount of haemoglobin in red blood cells is less than normal”.

Symptoms of Aneamia:

  • Fatigue/tiredness
  • Shortness of breath
  • Dizziness
  • Fast heartbeat or sensation of the heart beating in the chest (palpitations)
  • Pounding or ‘ringing’ in your ears
  • Headache
  • Cold hands or feet
  • Pale or yellow skin
  • Chest pain
  • Lack of concentration
  • Sore tongue or mouth ulcers
  • Irritability

“So this is a thank you to those selflessly giving blood that helped me and thousands of other people who
really needed it.”

Fans were quick to show support for the former soap star in the comments section.

One person wrote: “Oh bless you, how awful!! So glad you okay now.”

Another said: “Holy hell!! So glad you’re ok now Lucy. And this is an amazing post!”

While a third penned: “The NHS does an amazing job & is never given any the praise it deserves, I’m glad you’re ok xx.”

And a fourth added: “Wonderful to share LucyJo! So glad you are doing so well! Xxx.”

We sat wrapped in blankets and drained our savings last year – the Winter Fuel Payment u-turn took too long

LAST winter Jim Whitehouse, 66, and his wife sat shivering on their sofa wrapped in blankets rationing their energy.

They drained some of their small £5,000 savings pot to help pay their gas and electricity, after Rachel Reeves announced Winter Fuel Payment would be axed for 10million pensioners unless they claimed Pension Credit

Pic by Roland Leon Jim Whitehouse, a 66-year-old retired landscape gardener with heart problems, and his 59-year-old wife are struggling despite a lifetime of contributions. They narrowly miss out on winter fuel allowance
Jim, a retired landscape gardener, was one of the thousands of pensioners who called our Winter Fuel SOS helpline last year

Now, a year later the government has confirmed a massive u-turn – it WILL pay the benefit to anyone earning £35,000 or less without having to claim pension credit

For Jim, who lives in a small cottage in Shopshire, with his wife, 59, who is unable to work due to health reasons, it’s welcome news – but it’s taken too long.

“For many £200 doesn’t seem like much, but for us it’s the difference between a slightly warmer winter and a downright miserable one,” Jim said.

He added: “That unnecessary stress put a massive strain on my health and left us either draining our savings to stay warm or sitting on the sofa wrapped in blankets to get through the cold.”

“It means we won’t have to choose between heating and putting food on the table.”

“It’s common sense, isn’t it? People who’ve worked hard all their lives shouldn’t be left to freeze.

“I’m glad someone’s finally seen sense, even if it took them long enough.”

Jim, a retired landscape gardener, was one of the thousands of pensioners who called our Winter Fuel SOS helpline last year, as we helped provide support for readers who were worried about their energy bills

The couple receive an £800 monthly state pension, which meant they were just over the threshold for support last year, missing out the payment.

Jim said: “We drove 40 miles to apply for Universal Credit together, only to be told £800 a month is enough for us to live on… It was baffling.”

Jim, who suffers from a chronic heart condition and has had three stents fitted, called the eligibility process “shambolic” and said the stress of it all took a toll on his health.

The £200 extra this winter will allow him to buy logs to heat his small cottage for eight weeks during the cold winter months.

Today, Rachel Reeves will reiterate an embarrassing U-turn on her harsh Winter Fuel cuts as part of her spending review.

The reversal, costing £1.25 billion, was first revealed on Monday.

Under the new rules, all pensioners earning £35,000 or less will now qualify for this year’s Winter Fuel Payment.

LAST winter Richard Barton, 70, says he “literally sat in the cold” after he lost the £300 Winter Fuel Payment.

The retired electrical engineer from Fareham, Hampshire, has just £200 a month after paying his bills as his state pension doesn’t stretch far enough.

He still wasn’t eligible for the Winter Fuel Payment after it was axed for 10million last year.

To cope with the cold last winter, Richard relied on a fan heater, a thermal blanket, and a hat, confessing that he “literally sat in the cold.”

“I only have enough to survive on and I have to rely on savings for bills – this is no way to live your life at my age,” he said.

And while he will now get the payment, the lifelong Labour supporter said: “Labour’s cuts have quite literally left me out in the cold.”

They might have reversed the changes for some of us now, but they’ve lost my vote for good.”

Another couple hit by the payment cull were Norah, 85, and Michael, 81, who after decades of hard work and paying into the system they were forced to endure a freezing winter.

The couple contacted The Sun’s Winter Fuel Payment SOS helpline last year.

Michael, a retired foundry engineer who worked until he was 75, and Norah, a former auxiliary nurse and carer, are still struggling with bills.

They have just £300 a month after bills and Michael, who is battling cancer, faces frequent hospital visits for scans, radiation, and chemotherapy, which have added significantly to their monthly outgoings.

Despite owning their home outright and having no debts, the couple have no savings to fall back on.

“We were cold all winter,” Norah admitted, explaining how they huddle under blankets to avoid turning on the heating – a situation that worsens her COPD and is far from ideal for her husband’s fragile health.

“What upsets us is we’ve never, ever put in for anything,” she said.

“We’re not asking for much – we’ve paid into the system for decades.”

The Sun's Winter Fuel S.O.S Campaign

THE Sun's Winter Fuel SOS Campaign was set up to support households following the government's cutbacks.

Around ten million pensioners lost out on the £300 Winter Fuel Payment in Winter 2024.

When we opened out phone lines to thousands of pensioners in October, we provided dedicated tips and advice on how affected households could stretch their finances further.

We also partnered with the poverty charity Turn2Us to launch a free benefits checker, helping ensure that everyone is claiming all the benefits they are entitled to.

Don’t miss our latest Sun Money coverage, which includes essential information on key deadlines, applying for support, and everything you need to know about the latest Winter Fuel Payment changes.

Pregnant Georgia Harrison cruelly mum shamed before even giving birth after she gets her hair done before Ibiza trip

PREGNANT Georgia Harrison has been cruelly mum shamed before even giving birth, after she got her hair done before a trip to Ibiza.

The Love Island star, 30, revealed in April she is expecting her first child with boyfriend Jack Stacey – 10 months into their whirlwind romance.

However, Georgia, has been mum shamed after posting on Instagram about how she was having her hair done for a trip to Ibiza.

The reality star – who first shot to fame on Love Island in 2017 – shared a video on Instagram of herself having her blonde locks dyed.

She wrote next to the clip: “Warning: this colour may cause spontaneous compliments.

“Had lots of fun already going lighter for summer.

“Ready for Ibiza this weekend … am I mad going pregnant?”

But while a lot of her fans said how good Georgia looked, some mum shamed her for getting her hair dyed while pregnant, and also going to Ibiza while expecting.

One fan wrote: “Ibiza is defo not a place to go while carrying a child it’s full of intoxicated people, also bleach in your hair isn’t recommended while being pregnant.”

While another said: “How times have changed. I got told not to dye my hair while I was pregnant. That was 10 years ago though.”

This one added: “It’s not recommended to be using bleach whilst pregnant, other colouring is fine.”

Another vented: “You’re not meant to do your hair whilst being pregnant.”

Is it safe to dye your hair while pregnant?

According to the NHS website, most research, although limited, shows it’s safe to colour your hair while pregnant.

Some studies have found that very high doses of the chemicals in hair dyes may cause harm.

However, these doses are massive compared with the very low amount of chemicals you may be exposed to when colouring your hair.

Dyeing your hair whilst breastfeeding is also safe.

PREGNANCY NEWS

Georgia revealed shared her exciting pregnancy news with fans in April.

Not long after, during an Instagram Q&A with fans, the reality star was asked how far along she is and replied: “16 weeks, five days.”

This means her due date should be on or around December 31.

Georgia was also asked about her baby shower plans, and replied: “I wanted to do a goth theme or Tiger King theme but my friends and family have said no.

“There’s still time though.”

WHIRLWIND ROMANCE

Last year, Georgia returned to Love Island for the first All Stars series, hoping to find romance again.

Despite leaving the All Stars villa with Anton Danyluk, their romance quickly fizzled out and just months later she and Jack met on a dating app.

Opening up about meeting Jack and falling pregnant, Georgia told OK! Magazine: “If you don’t go to the interview, you’re not going to get the job, are you?”

“I was thinking, ‘I’m nearly 30, I really want to make an effort to meet someone’. But I was quite pessimistic about love in general.

“It took me a while to really believe that someone could treat me so well, but Jack did.

“Now here we are, living together and about to have a baby!

“I do believe the things I’ve experienced in my past were meant to lead me to where I am now.”

Budget airlines scraps all flights to the US just three years after launching

A BUDGET airline has confirmed all of its flights to America will be scrapped later this year.

PLAY Airlines was founded in 2019 and launched in 2021 as an ultra low cost carrier in Iceland.

The airline used Reykjavik as a layover destination for flights to North America, with Brits stopping over in the Icelandic city.

Flights were as little as £139 when travelling to places like New York.

Now, the airline is planning to get rid of its US flights altogether.

PLAY has removed all US flights from its schedule, as of the winter season.

The airline currently flies to Baltimore, Boston and New York Stewart – but these routes will disappear from September and October of this year.

Flights to Stewart International Airport (SWF) will end from September 1, followed by Boston Logan International Airport from September 15.

And flights to Baltimore/Washington International Airport will end on October 24.

Whilst the airline used to have even more of a network in North America such as New York and Orlando, these flights have already been scrapped.

PLAY initially focused on European destinations, with routes to Alicante, Tenerife, London, Paris, Copenhagen, and Berlin.

This later expanded to North America in April 2022 and then later to Africa and Asia.

And it was only a couple months ago that the airline flew its first flight to Asia.

Despite changes, the airline’s hub will remain in Keflavik.

The future for the airline also looks as if it may go private, with both the company’s CEO and Vice Chairman supporting this.

Since going public, the airline’s stock is down 97 per cent.

The airline does plan to continue to have 10 aircraft in its fleet, but to start using them differently.

Four of the planes would fly out of Keflavik, specifically to leisure destinations with high demand.

Sun Travel has contacted PLAY for comment.

Just last year, another budget airline scrapped one of its cheap flights to the US – after just three years.

Budget airline JetBlue confirmed that they would be stopping the London Gatwick to New York route from this summer.

The route launched back in 2021 and the airline already reduced the route in August 2024.

The airline said the end of the route was to “better align with anticipated demand”.

Plus, Ryanair has warned that more of its flights to Spain could be scrapped next year.
