As per People, after dating for over a year in secret, they married in a private ceremony in 2023.
Wanting to make the moment extra special, Evans chose to propose in Portuguese to honor Baptista’s heritage. He spent a whole week practicing the phrase “Will you marry me?” in her native tongue. At one point, he even caught himself saying it aloud while making breakfast, almost spoiling the surprise.
When the big moment finally came, nerves got the better of him. Despite all the rehearsals, he felt flustered and wasn’t sure he nailed the delivery perfectly. But the effort and sincerity behind it were what truly mattered, and the proposal was a success. In a chat with The Knot, he said (via TikTok),
Maybe I shouldn’t even be saying this. I proposed to my wife — she’s Portuguese — so I learned how to say, ‘Will you marry me?’ in Portuguese, I had practiced it so much that while I’d be making breakfast, you almost just start saying it out loud and you’re like ‘Oh God! That’s not just a song that’s stuck in my head. It’s going to let the cat out of the bag!’ But no, I got really nervous when it came time to do it and I actually think I screwed it up. But I still know it!
