After Cyberpunk 2077, Another CDPR Banger Might Be Set for a Shocking DLC Comeback

By now, most fans of The Witcher 3 have already completed the game and are looking forward to The Witcher 4. But what if we told you that the 2015 hit might get another DLC next year? Well, that is exactly what a new leak claims. With the recent news of Cyberpunk 2077 also getting a new DLC, just how much is CD Projekt Red cooking?

If The Witcher 3 were to get a DLC, what would we see in it? Would it be as big as Hearts of Stone or Blood and Wine? Do note that nothing has been confirmed by CDPR. But if this new claim is true, it would be one of the biggest comebacks we’ve ever seen from a game. And it’s not like The Witcher 3 isn’t already good enough, too.

Cyberpunk 2077 isn’t the only CDPR game getting a new DLC, a new report claims

According to Polish podcasters Rock and Boris (via MP1st), a third major DLC for The Witcher 3 is in the works and tentatively slated for 2026. One thing to note from this new leak is that, unlike the fan favorite Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine expansions, this potential DLC won’t be made by CD Projekt Red.

According to the podcasters, the job has been outsourced to Fool’s Theory, an up-and-coming studio formed by veteran Witcher developers, including key quest designer Kuba Rokosz. But where in CDPR’s packed roadmap does this DLC fall in? According to the leak, it will follow The Witcher 3‘s update for enhanced mod support for consoles later this year.

After this, of course, comes The Witcher 4, which will see Ciri step into the protagonist role. Then we can expect the remake of The Witcher. But coming back to this alleged DLC, wouldn’t it be cool if we got to see Ciri’s journey from the end of The Witcher 3 to where we’re going to see her in The Witcher 4?

The game already has two DLCs, which are considered some of the best ever in gaming. So it would make sense for this to be more of a prequel to The Witcher 4. We also shouldn’t expect a full-scale expansion on the level of Blood & Wine, which famously added an entire new region and dozens of hours of questing.

A DLC for The Witcher 3 is just flexing at this point

As for confirmed updates that are on the way, CDPR continues to push forward with more accessible mod support for The Witcher 3. Official mod support for consoles is expected to arrive before year’s end. This is a move we couldn’t have seen coming from a mile away when the game came out. But now it just adds more to an already amazing game.

Of course, fans should take all this with the usual grain of salt. As of today, no official statement has confirmed this third DLC’s existence, let alone its scope or price point. If we look at CD Projekt Red’s recent patterns and the reliability of the sources involved, the idea of a new story expansion for The Witcher 3 isn’t that far-fetched.

For now, we’ll have to wait and see if any of this pans out. The Witcher 3 recently celebrated its 10-year anniversary, so it wouldn’t be surprising to see that CDPR actually cooked a DLC. But real or not, we have to wait.
