Among the new era of anime series, the one project that fans believe to reach the level of Eiichiro Oda’s One Piece is Solo Leveling by Chugong. Ever since it came out, Solo Leveling has developed a gigantic fanbase, which has brought it all the fame and recognition it needs to rival the popularity of One Piece, which has been going on for almost 30 years.
However, despite the general assumption of Solo Leveling fans, there is one element where One Piece stands above everyone else within the anime industry. It is the portrayal of the character development of different One Piece characters throughout the series. In fact, there is one forgotten character who has had better development than the Solo Leveling protagonist, Sung Jinwoo.
This character is none other than Chouchou, the dog from Orange Town who displayed the true essence of loyalty and resilience. Chouchou’s story had a better portrayal in One Piece than Sung Jinwoo in Solo Leveling.
The inspiring story of Chouchou the dog in One Piece
One Piece has had many unforgettable characters who have left a major impression on fans with their developments. However, there are some characters who might have been forgotten by fans because of the ginormous story, but that in no way means that they were not inspiring or significant enough to the One Piece narrative.

Chouchou was one such character who eventually lost his place in the narrative, but when he was focused on, he was the star of the story. The small white dog with thin ears and a bushy tail was so loyal that he guarded their shop for years after the death of his owner, Hocker. Not only that, he even went on to fight the Buggy Pirates alone, which was a big deal at the time.
While the entire town fled because of the invasion of Buggy Pirates, Chouchou stood his ground and gave his best, proving his loyalty and love for his owner. His character development was so impactful that the protagonist of One Piece, Luffy, was impressed by it, and he helped him take down the Buggy Pirates so that Chouchou could still live at the shop.
Chouchou’s character development was better than Sung Jinwoo’s
While it may seem like an exaggeration, the truth is that Chouchou really had a better character development at the time than Sung Jinwoo is currently going through in the Solo Leveling anime. And this does not have to do with their individual stories or their role within the story. The entire credit for this goes to Eiichiro Oda, the mastermind behind One Piece.
Oda has a way of making every character so impressionable that they instantly develop an emotional connection with One Piece fans.
Even small characters like Chouchou get so much significance within the story that fans can do nothing but fall in love with them. This has not been the case with Sung Jinwoo ever since the Solo Leveling anime started.

He might have had a great plot and better portrayal, but his development has not made an emotional connection with fans yet. They cannot sympathize with him because he is so powerful and, in some sense, unreachable. Thus, Solo Leveling might someday come close to One Piece in terms of popularity, but it can never beat the epicness of the story.
One Piece and Solo Leveling are currently available to watch on Crunchyroll.
