We all have that one opinion we’re not willing to budge on.

No discussion. No negotiation. No “let’s hear the other side.” Just: this is it.

Call it stubbornness or strong principles, but it’s the hill you’re willing to die on.

What’s that one debate you simply refuse to entertain? The topic where, no matter what anyone says, you’re not changing your mind.

On Feel Good, Andy Maqondwana shared one from her own household. When it comes to drying dishes, her sister does not take nonsense. In her world, dishes must be dried with a cloth. No air drying. No leaving them by the sink.

“You dry it with a cloth. You don’t air-dry. I’m like, but it’s kind of the same thing. And she’s like, ‘Yey, yey, in my household you take ifadukhwe, dry the dishes, put the dishes back in the cupboard. This thing of drying dishes and then they’re sitting there by the sink…’”

Feel Good listeners called in to share some of the things they are not willing to budge on.

One caller said no one could ever convince him that mayonnaise and baked beans is a salad.

“Hi Andy, my stance, and I will never be converted on this one, mayonnaise and baked beans is not a salad. Hayi, ayiyo, ayiyo. It can never be. Hayi, no. We can even have a commission of inquiry, hayi!”

Another caller made it clear that Sundays in her house are non-negotiable.

“The one thing I won’t debate on, number one in my house, every Sunday we’re going to church. Uzohlala uthi usazoyenzani endlini? We’re going to church every Sunday,” she said.

And for one listener, sharing utensils is completely out of the question.

“One thing I would never compromise on is sharing utensils. A plate, a cup, a glass. Before I eat, I put my things aside. I even bleach to disinfect them. Firstly, angifuni uku-share-a. I don’t want to share those things.”

Whether it’s how dishes are dried, what qualifies as a salad, church on Sundays, or personal utensils, everyone has that one unwavering stance.

So, what’s yours?
