Thobile opens up about shifting dynamics in the Mseleku household, alleging the fifth marriage was driven by obligation rather than affection

In another shocking turn of events on uThando Nes’thembu, Thobile MaKhumalo Mseleku claimed that her polygamist husband settled for his fifth wife and does not truly love her.
On Wednesday’s episode, MaKhumalo had a lengthy heart-to-heart conversation with Mbali MaNgwabe Mseleku about the new dynamics in their marital affairs since number five, Samke Khwela, entered the Mseleku villa.
Thobile shared several incidents with Mbali after Musa Mseleku allegedly asked MaNgwabe to speak to her on his behalf, as he had been blocked and could not reason with MaKhumalo directly.
“I have been understanding that I am not the matriarch, therefore I cannot control him or stop him from taking another wife.
“I once had a conversation with him, telling him that he’s getting old and I think he should stop this thing of running after girls as it compromises his dignity,” she said.
Thobile said her had husband agreed with her sentiments, saying he wanted to stop “chasing skirts” but did not know how, especially now that there is a baby involved. He was allegedly referring to Makhwela’s child, Methuli Mseleku.
“It’s not that he loves the girl, it is simply because she agreed to become number five. She’s not his lifelong partner. He’s not marrying her based on love. She has a role to play in the family, he was just trying to prove a point to those who threatened to leave if he married another person,” said MaKhumalo.
MaKhumalo’s outburst
At first, it seemed the tension between Thobile and Musa stemmed from him marrying someone from MaKhumalo’s neighbourhood, despite promising he would never do so.
Many viewers initially believed this was the reason behind her resistance to his relationship with Samke Makhwela. However, after the latest episode, some viewers have changed their tone, suggesting that MaKhumalo may now be realising that she is not an exception in Musa’s polygamous journey.
MaKhumalo, who is the third wife in the Mzumbe polygamous family, has long been viewed as the “cool wife” who was never openly against the idea of a fifth marriage.
She said her feelings shifted after Musa used the phrase “abahambe abahambayo, sosala siy’ncenga” loosely translated as, “those who want to leave can leave; the journey will continue with or without them.”
According to Thobile, that statement was an “ick” for her, as it signalled that they were no longer building the shared vision they once had, but instead destroying it.
Meanwhile, Samke Makhwela who has referred to the other wives as the “three musketeers” assured the viewers she is not going anywhere and is committed to building a future with her man.
It remains to be seen what will become of the family that was once viewed as a leading example of iSthembu in South Africa.
