The National Treasury has announced increases to social grants for beneficiaries across the country.

Although the adjustments are modest, they are expected to make a meaningful difference in the lives of those who rely on the grants the most.

Finance Minister Enoch Godongwana announced the increases during his 2026 Budget Speech on Wednesday afternoon, 25 February 2026.

“For 2026/27, social grants are allocated R292.8 billion, enabling the following increases,” said the minister.

The old age grant, disability grant and care dependency grant will increase by R80 in April 2026 to R2 400.

The war veterans grant will also increase by R80 to R2 420. The foster care grant will increase by R40 to R1 290 in April, and rise further to R1 300 in October, reflecting an additional R10 increase.

The child support grant and grant-in-aid grant will increase by R20 to R580.

Godongwana added that the Social Relief of Distress (SRD) grant will continue in its current form over the year ahead.
