International flights to and from Cape Town International Airport were suspended on Monday afternoon following a fire incident that left thousands of commuters stranded.

The fire broke out at the airport in the Western Cape, affecting operations.

The Airports Company South Africa (ACSA) confirmed that the fire disrupted network and IT services, including airport WiFi.

“As a precautionary measure, international flights have been temporarily suspended. All incoming international flights are being diverted, and passengers are advised to check directly with their airlines for the latest information,” ACSA said in a statement.

ACSA also advised passengers travelling on domestic departures or arriving on domestic flights to check directly with their airlines and the ACSA mobile app for the latest flight updates.
