TWO men on Friday were killed in separate shooting incidents in Tarlac and Nueva Ecija prompting police a to launch manhunt operations and intensify investigations to identify the perpetrators.
In a report to Police Regional Office 3 (PRO3) director Brig. Gen. Ponce Rogelio Penones Jr., the Tarlac police said victim Danilo Espiritu, 72, was shot dead along a village road in front of a cockpit arena in Bgy. San Felipe, San Manuel town.
Initial investigation showed that Espiritu had gone to his farm and was on his way home when two unidentified suspects arrived riding a red Honda Click motorcycle.
The driver was reportedly wearing cream-colored clothing while the backrider wore a blue jacket.
Authorities said the suspects suddenly opened fire, hitting the victim in different parts of his body and causing his instantaneous death.
The assailants immediately fled westward toward Pangasinan after the gun attack.
Personnel of the San Manuel police immediately initiated a flash alarm and dragnet operation under “Oplan Bakod” and are reviewing nearby closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage as part of the ongoing investigation.
On the same day in Nueva Ecija, a 59-year-old farm caretaker was also killed in an alleged shooting incident in Bgy. Caballero, Palayan City.
The victim was identified as Gonzalo Gabriel Jr., of Bgy. Atate, Palayan City.
Police said the victim was driving his tricycle, locally known as a “kolong-kolong,” when unidentified suspects shot him multiple times before fleeing on an unknown direction.
The victim was rushed to Palayan City Hospital but was declared dead on arrival by an attending physician.
