The family of a 13-year-old girl who was allegedly raped by a 58-year-old prominent pastor has called on the public to stop circulating the disturbing video linked to the incident.

The video, which has been widely shared on social media, reportedly shows graphic scenes from the aftermath of the alleged assault.

The incident is believed to have taken place during the Easter long weekend but has only come to light in recent days.

The suspect has since been arrested and is expected to appear in court on Tuesday, 14 April 2026.

Meanwhile, residents of Dobsonville have gathered outside the Roodepoort Magistrates Court in support of the young victim.

Community members say the demonstration is aimed at showing solidarity with the girl, particularly after some congregants reportedly rallied behind the pastor, arguing that he is innocent until proven guilty.

The incident has once again placed Gender-Based Violence in the spotlight in South Africa, where it has been declared a national crisis.

The family has also urged the public not to exploit the matter for political gain.
