‘May require medical attention’ – Popular baby teething powder urgently recalled amid warning for Irish parents

A POPULAR teething powder has been pulled from the shelves in a huge recall due to the possible presence of glass pieces in the product.

Stores across the country are recalling batches of Weleda Baby Teething Powder.

The Authority issued a Category One For Action call to manufacturers, wholesalers, distributors, caterers and retailers.

The 60g pack sizes of the teething powder has a best before date of November, 2026 and the batch code is 231302.

The recall has been issued due to a packaging matter.

Weleda said a potential problem was identified where a packaging process fault may have resulted in the presence of glass fragments.

A spokesperson added: “No other batches of Weleda Baby Teething Oral Powder 60g are affected by this recall.

“If glass fragments are present in the powder and applied to an infant’s gums, they could cause discomfort, pain, or minor injury.

“In more serious cases, there is a risk of choking or internal injury, including damage to the gastrointestinal tract, which may require urgent medical attention.”

Consumers are advised not to administer the powder from the affected batch to their infant or child.

And they are also urged to return the product to the place of purchase for a replacement or refund.

Retailers are requested to remove the implicated batch from sale and display recall notices at point-of-sale.

Wholesalers/distributors are requested to contact their affected customers and recall the implicated batch and provide a point-of-sale recall notice to their retail customers.

The FSAI said: “The above batch of Weleda Baby Teething Powder is being recalled due to the possible presence of glass pieces.

“Consumers are advised not to administer the implicated batch to infants or children.”

URGENT WARNING

Separately, an urgent warning has also been issued for Irish parents over the recall of a baby cap.

The Competition and Consumer Protection Commission urgently recalled the Pepco Baby Frotte Cap Blue, which was sold in Dealz.

They said that the risk presented by the product is choking, as the button may detach from the garment creating a small part.

And the small part may be placed in the mouth and swallowed, causing a young child to choke.

The brand is Pepco and the product codes are 871590 and 871591.

The style number is 871586, followed by the barcodes 5045731150841 and 5045731150858.

All sizes are affected, they are 6-12M and 12-36M.

There are approximately 568 affected products across the country.
