Kate Beckinsale sued the producers of Canary Black
Actress Kate Beckinsale played the role of Avery Graves in the 2024 action-thriller movie Canary Black. The movie was filmed across several locations in Croatia and Slovenia between 2022 and 2023. It was later acquired for distribution by Amazon MGM Studios.

The movie premiered on Prime Video on October 2, 2024, to mostly negative reviews. It holds a critics score of 18% and an audience score of 33% on the review aggregator website Rotten Tomatoes. As a result, the movie turned out to be a major disaster for Beckinsale.
In June 2025, it was reported that the Pearl Harbor actress had filed a lawsuit against the film’s producers over alleged unsafe working conditions, resulting in debilitating injuries. The lawsuit was filed anonymously in December last year before it was amended in May 2025 (via USA Today).
Several production companies were involved with the making of Canary Black, including Anton Entertainment. Producer John Zois of Anton Entertainment has been named as the primary defendant in the case amid allegations of negligence, intentional infliction of emotional distress, and battery from Beckinsale.
Kate Beckinsale suffered a knee injury while filming Canary Black
Following the lawsuit’s filing in December, it was later amended with specific details regarding the circumstances Beckinsale reportedly faced because of the producers’ alleged negligence.

According to a report from reports, the Underworld franchise actress alleged that she suffered a significant knee injury during filming on an unsafe set in Croatia. In the lawsuit, Beckinsale claimed that she was forced to perform the stunt herself with minimal padding.
The scene in question required another actor to throw her against a wall, which reportedly caused a complex tear of her left meniscus (via Variety).
Notwithstanding the complaints by Ms. Beckinsale, there were numerous takes of this dangerous scene.
The above statement was made in the lawsuit, explaining the situation that caused Beckinsale’s knee injury. At the same time, Beckinsale has also alleged that the producers continued to neglect her demands for safe workplace practices when she recovered from the injury and returned to the sets.
Additionally, the lawsuit also alleges that filming days would go as long as 15 hours, despite Beckinsale’s contract stating she could only work for 12 hours. As a result, Beckinsale has requested a jury trial seeking economic, non-economic, and punitive damages.
Canary Black can be streamed on Amazon Prime Video.
