The up-and-coming American singer Conner Smith, who has charted three singles so far and is signed to Big Machine Records’ Valory label, seems to have embroiled himself in a serious controversy as of late. As the latest reports have it, the 24-year-old rising singer was allegedly said to have accidentally hit and killed a woman in her late 70s.
However, as surprising as all of these latest reports are for his fans, what’s even more baffling is that Smith just may have manifested this scandal months prior. In one of the most mind-boggling turn of events, one of the singer’s songs released back in 2024 seems to mirror the circumstances of the crime he is being accused of: Rollin’ Down the Road.
Conner Smith was involved in a fatal car accident

Being on the list of the currently rising musical talents in the entertainment industry, Conner Smith might not have predicted getting embroiled in any controversies anytime soon. But fate doesn’t appear to be proving all that favorable to him, since the country music singer was recently involved in a fatal car accident that allegedly killed one.
According to a release shared by the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department, while driving a Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck on Sunday, June 8, the Creek Will Rise singer reportedly struck and killed Dorothy Dobbins, a 77-year-old woman, who was crossing the roadway inside a marked crosswalk at the time.
“The preliminary contributing factor for this crash appears to be Smith failing to yield the right of way to the pedestrian,” the release said. “He showed no signs of impairment.”
Dobbins was transported to Vanderbilt University Medical Center, but she was later declared dead. At the same time, there are no charges “at present” against Smith.
With a source adding that this was truly an accident and that the singer was neither under the influence nor distracted by his phone while driving, Smith’s attorney confirmed this in a statement shared with PEOPLE:
[Conner Smith was] involved in a car accident that tragically claimed a life. His heart goes out to Ms. Dobbins’ family during this incredibly difficult time. Mr. Smith continues to cooperate fully with the ongoing investigation.
This is truly unfortunate for the singer, who was even nominated for New Male Artist of the Year at the ACM Awards in 2024. But what’s even more chilling is that Conner Smith seems to have manifested this scandal with one of his songs from last year.
Conner Smith’s Rollin’ Down the Road seemingly mirrors this alleged car accident?

Last year, Conner Smith released the banger Rollin’ Down the Road through his album The Storyteller, which celebrates the experience of living life as a touring artist, even with the occasional hangovers. But while the song has a positive, fun vibe as it captures the excitement of being on the road with friends, it seems to mirror his alleged scandal.
For one, the song opens up with the lyrics, “We’re just rollin’ down the road / Me and my best friends / Living out a dream / And a suitcase in my hand / Just outlaw living.”
Well, when that reported accident took place, that’s exactly what Smith appeared to have been doing – rolling down the road in his Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck.
But, of course, as uncanny as it may seem to see how those lyrics ostensibly mirror the scandal, it must only be a coincidence, since even Conner Smith wouldn’t have predicted that his rolling down the road could take such an unfortunate and dark turn for him.
It is yet to be seen, though, how this case will proceed and what charges the singer will have to face.
