Older Person’s SASSA social grants to be paid BEFORE Easter long weekend

The South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) has confirmed its social grant payment schedule for the 2026/27 financial year, providing millions of beneficiaries with clarity on when to expect their funds.

The schedule follows approval by the National Treasury and outlines both payment dates and grant increases taking effect from April.

How payment dates are determined

SASSA said grant payments are structured to ensure beneficiaries receive funds as early in the month as possible, while being staggered over three days:

  • Older persons: usually the 2nd of the month
  • Disability grants: 3rd of the month
  • Children’s grants: 4th of the month

However, adjustments are made to:

  • Avoid payments immediately after public holidays
  • Prevent payments falling on the 1st or on Mondays
  • Ensure dates do not land on weekends

If a payment date falls on a weekend or public holiday, it is moved to the next working day.

April payment dates

The next round of payments are just over a week away.

There is ‘good’ news for Older Person’s grant recipients in that they will be paid on Thursday, 2 April.

However, disability, children’s – and the remaining grants – will only be paid five to six days later due to the Easter long weekend between Friday, 3 and Monday, 6 April.

April 2026 payments will be made as follows:

  • Older persons: Thursday, 2 April
  • Disability grants: Tuesday, 7 April
  • Children’s grants: Wednesday, 8 April

Grant increases from April

Following the national budget announcement, social grants will increase from April 2026:

  • Old Age Grant: R2,320 → R2,400 (+R80)
  • War Veterans Grant: R2,340 → R2,420 (+R80)
  • Disability Grant: R2,320 → R2,400 (+R80)
  • Care Dependency Grant: R2,320 → R2,400 (+R80)

  • Child Support Grant: R560 → R580 (+R20)
  • Grant-in-Aid: R560 → R580 (+R20)
  • SRD Grant: remains at R370 (no increase)

Support for beneficiaries

The South African Social Security Agency has reiterated its commitment to ensuring that social grants are paid on time, urging beneficiaries to report any delays at their nearest office for assistance.

The agency emphasised that the updated payment schedule and recently announced grant increases form part of broader government efforts to support vulnerable households.

SASSA said maintaining a reliable and efficient payment system remains a priority, particularly as millions of South Africans depend on social grants for their daily needs.

The measures are also aimed at ensuring stability within the national payment system, while continuing to provide critical financial relief amid ongoing economic pressures.
