Fists fly at LIV Golf mass brawl [video]

A group of spectators at the LIV Golf event in Steyn City came to blows in a video that has gone viral on social media.

The tournament, won by US golfer Bryson DeChambeau, took place for the first time on the African continent, attracting over 100 000 visitors in the space of four days.  

Black Coffee, Calvin Harris and GoldFish formed part of the entertainment line-up.

On social media, a lengthy clip of a group of LIV Golf spectators fighting each other went viral.

In the video, two large groups, which split into multiple groups, kicked, punched and stomped on each other at the venue in Steyn City.

The motive behind the mass brawl is unknown.

According to reports, police escorted the attendees off the property.

Gauteng police spokesperson Brenda Muridili said: “Gauteng Traffic Wardens and private security personnel posted outside the perimeter of the Welcome Centre at the LIV Golf South Africa in Steyn City, restored order when they stopped an altercation among a group of seemingly intoxicated individuals involved in a brawl”

FUN ON THE PITCH TOO

Apart from the fighting, there was plenty of dancing during the LIV Golf event.

In another clip posted on social media, a group of supporters cheered on Zimbabwean-born South African golfer Dean Burmester. 

The group took off their shirts and waved them around whilst cheering on the 36-year-old player.

Dean joined in on the fun, showing off his dance moves on the pitch to Mandoza’s Nkalakatha. At one point, he had fans reeling as he put on a Bafana Bafana t-shirt.

Sporting his nickname “Burmy” on the back, Dean said of his gesture in a post-game conference: “Every Friday in South Africa we love supporting our teams, and we have the football World Cup coming up, and it’s ‘Football Friday’ so we’ve got to support Bafana Bafana and we were lucky enough that they sent us some jerseys”.
