Dan Trachtenberg is returning to the Predator franchise with no one but two unique and interesting projects. The director was recently promoting Predator: Badlands and Predator: Killer of Killers, which will be brand new additions to the franchise.
During the interview, Trachtenberg shared his thoughts on why one of the most legendary horror directors was perfect for the franchise. One 43-year-old movie from the living legend is proof that Trachtenberg is right. Here is what Trachtenberg had to say about the one director he wanted to see make a Predator movie.
Dan Trachtenberg feels John Carpenter was perfect for Predator
Dan Trachtenberg revitalized the Predator franchise with 2022’s Prey, which received generally positive reviews. The filmmaker returns to the franchise with two new installments. The animated Predator: Killer of Killers was released this week.

Meanwhile, the live-action Predator: Badlands, starring Elle Fanning in the lead role, is slated to release later this year. Trachtenberg spoke to CBR about the franchise while promoting the two new installments. During the interview, the director admitted that he wanted Jon Carpenter to make a Predator movie.
Trachtenberg made the following statement, explaining why he felt the legendary horror director was perfect for the blockbuster franchise:
It’s crazy that John Carpenter didn’t make one of them. But in fact, now I’m oh, how cool would that have been?
Trachtenberg voiced an interest in seeing the now 77-year-old Carpenter make a Predator movie, despite the veteran having mostly retired from directing, as his last feature film as a director came out in 2010. As a result, Trachtenberg himself cast doubt on such a project materializing.
The Thing is proof that John Carpenter should’ve made a Predator movie
Trachtenberg certainly gave horror fans some food for thought by sharing the idea of a John Carpenter-directed Predator movie. The filmmaker is known for helming the first two installments in the Halloween franchise, one of the highest-grossing horror franchises.

However, Carpenter’s 1982 sci-fi horror film The Thing provides the perfect template for the director to make a Predator movie. Both movies share the same basic premise, which revolves around an extraterrestrial life-form and the threat it poses to mankind.
Furthermore, both combine sci-fi elements to induce horror among viewers, with Carpenter’s cult classic movie adding a bleak and nihilistic tone to the material. At the same time, Carpenter is also a master of creating an eerie atmosphere with music and visuals.
Therefore, The Thing is proof that Carpenter could easily nail the fundamentals of a Predator movie, with a more grounded and character-driven tone along the same lines as Trachtenberg did with Prey. Hence, Trachtenberg is right about Carpenter being the perfect fit for helming a Predator movie.
The Thing can be rented on Amazon Prime Video.
