It’s really been a busy week for gamers, with tons of announcements left and right. However, at last, Xbox has also shown its cards. The Xbox Games Showcase 2025 has given us a look at numerous first-party games on the horizon for the brand, but the one that’s the talk of the town right now is Aphelion.
Don’t Nod, the minds behind the iconic Life is Strange series, have revealed their brand-new game, Aphelion, at the showcase. It’s a narrative-driven sci-fi adventure that takes cues from Dead Space and Uncharted. What’s so special about this game that everyone can’t wait to get their hands on it? Well, it’s a collaboration project with the European Space Agency (ESA).
Xbox’s next sci-adventure is Alphelion, and it’s truly out of this world
Don’t Nod revealed Aphelion at the Xbox Games Showcase with an exciting trailer. By 2060, Earth will be practically too dangerous to reside on. However, scientists have found a planet called Persephone. The ESA has sent its two astronauts, Ariane and Thomas, on a mission dubbed Hope 01.
What’s their goal? They must adventure through Persephone and find out if it’s habitable for humans. However, things take a turn for the worse when Hope 01 crashes onto the planet. Separated from each other, Ariane must find her wounded partner before frozen hell unleashes upon them.
In terms of gameplay, we don’t know what Aphelion is planning to bring to the table. There will likely be a focus on choices and a story just like the Life is Strange games. However, the trailer does put a focus on platforming, which means it will be an integral part of this sci-fi experience.
What’s really interesting about Aphelion is that it’s being developed in collaboration with ESA. The development team is trying to bring an authentic experience that’s as close to modern or future travel. For these purposes, it’s not a shock that Don’t Nod is consulting the space exploration agency.
Unfortunately, there’s no particular release date for Aphelion, but it’s confirmed that the game will be released on Xbox Series S/X and PC in 2026. Of course, it’s going to be a day-one Game Pass title.
Xbox Games Showcase 2025 revealed another space game
Well, if you’re a fan of sci-fi adventure games, you’re in luck. Not only did we get a look at Aphelion at the Xbox Games Showcase, but also Outer Worlds 2. For those unaware, this is a follow-up to the critically acclaimed Outer Worlds, and has been in development since 2019.
Obsidian first unveiled the title all the way back in June 2021 and dropped a reveal trailer right at the end of 2024. Now, at the Xbox Games Showcase, Outer Worlds 2 received a brand-new trailer, which finally confirmed its release date: October 29th, 2025.
The brand-new trailer for the space RPG gave us a look at new gameplay footage, locations, settings, and a bunch of other things. Outer Worlds 2 will retail for $79.99 and also have a Premium Edition that will cost an extra $20. It’s also been confirmed that the game will receive at least two DLCs, but no release dates have been confirmed for them.
