‘Gachiakuta’ Will Have to Nail One Element That No Anime Has Properly Explored Before

Spoiler Alert !!!
This article contains spoilers for Gachiakuta anime.

The unique and unpredictable world of Kei Urana’s Gachiakuta is soon coming to life with the anime adaptation that was announced by Bones Inc. The series is the prime example of how the world of manga is continuously including new elements to add a sense of intrigue and make the stories more interesting by not just following the stereotypical elements.

One element of Gachiakuta that almost every fan is talking about is the graffiti art style embedded within the story. Gachiakuta is probably the only anime that uses graffiti intricately within the narrative to express different aspects in terms of character development, plot twists, etc.

Thus, the anime will have to nail these graffiti arts in the best way possible. It is the only way it will be as successful as the original series.

The graffiti art style of Gachiakuta

The story of Gachiakuta involves a dystopian setting where a young boy named Rudo is charged with the murder of his foster father, Regto, and is thus dumped into the dark and dangerous trash world called The Pit. As he ends up in The Pit, he meets Enjin, who helps him become a Cleaner. However, what fuels Rudo’s fire is the revenge that he wants to take on the upperclassmen who dumped him.

This spirit of rebellion, redemption, and revenge is portrayed through graffiti designs that are embedded within the different parts of the story. Reportedly, the entire show would follow the graffiti art style, which is quite rare to see within the manga/anime industry. The combination of the traditional manga art with something urban and unique, like graffiti, has become the unique selling point of Gachiakuta.

Even the creator of the series, Kei Urana, and the graffiti artist of Gachiakuta, Ando Hideyoshi, have explained how using graffiti has worked in favor of the series. This graffiti is not just a tool to make the story interesting, but it is an expression of emotions from the creators through the characters. Fans have loved this eccentric style of Gachiakuta, and they are calling the manga the next big shonen series of the community.

Gachiakuta anime will have to nail the graffiti art style of the manga

As mentioned above, the graffiti art style is the most important element of the Gachiakuta manga series. It is one of the main reasons why the series is celebrated so much and what led to fans hyping up the news about the story getting an anime adaptation. Thus, the pressure on Bones Inc. to perfect the graffiti art style within the anime is certainly substantial.

From visual brilliance to colour coding, Bones Inc. needs to make sure that every aspect of Gachiakuta that is connected to the graffiti art style is just like fans have imagined it to be.

It needs to retain the raw, gritty feeling of the manga, which expresses the balance between messy and meaningful elements of graffiti within the story.

The anime is scheduled for a global premiere on July 6, 2025, with advanced screenings announced all over the world. Thus, the pressure on the anime is unprecedented, and if it fails to match the level of Gachiakuta manga, all the efforts will be in vain. Hopefully, Bones Inc. has done its best to bring out one of the best manga stories of the modern era.

Gachiakuta will be available to watch on Crunchyroll.
