Suvarnabhumi Airport security staff intervened in time on March 1 after a Russian man attempted to jump from a height at the arrivals terminal, with police and rescue personnel helping to bring the situation under control.
The Suvarnabhumi Airport Security Centre was alerted at 6.53pm on March 1 to a man attempting to jump from a height at the arrivals terminal. He was on the outer platform area on the second floor near Gate 3.
After receiving the report, airport security moved to the scene and intervened immediately. The man was prevented from jumping off, and the situation was brought under control.
No injuries were reported, and the event did not affect services for other passengers, according to the airport statement.
Officials later identified the man and found he was a Russian national, but his name was unknown. The man reportedly had no identification documents with him and was carrying only one mobile phone.
He was later handed over to investigating officers at Suvarnabhumi Airport Police Station, where he was kept in custody to prevent a repeat incident.
In its statement, Suvarnabhumi Airport praised the officers from all involved units for their careful handling of the situation. The airport said the incident reflected its international-level safety management standards and its emphasis on airport safety at all times.
As of now, the airport has not provided any details about the passenger’s condition or what led to the incident.
Elsewhere, Police officers in Ayutthaya province intervened to stop a 15 year old boy from jumping off a bridge, as classmates offered encouragement and worked with officers to talk him away from the edge.
The teenager was found sitting on the bridge, crying and holding a handwritten farewell letter, after reportedly facing heavy stress from family and school pressures.
