27 Years Ago, NCIS Actor Sasha Alexander Starred in a $223M Jim Carrey Cult-Hit That Still Remains a Banger

Before NCIS made her a household name, Sasha Alexander had already made waves on the big screen. Nearly three decades ago, the actress shared the spotlight with comedy legend Jim Carrey in Yes Man, a movie that would go on to become a cult classic. Not only that, but with its hilarious premise and storytelling, the movie pulled in a massive $223 million at the box office.

While Carrey led the charge with his acting chops, Alexander made her presence felt in a movie that still holds up as a fan favorite today. Let’s dive deeper!

Long before Kate Todd in NCIS, Sasha Alexander had a scene-stealing role in Yes Man

Long before NCIS skyrocketed her career in the television genre, Sasha Alexander had a small but meaningful role in a Jim Carrey movie that went on to become a box office hit. The movie was the feel-good rom-com Yes Man, released all the way back in 2008. It was directed by Peyton Reed and loosely inspired by a real-life memoir.

While the movie may not have managed to win over critics, it surely held a special place in the hearts of fans. Here, Carrey plays Carl Allen, a lonely bank worker stuck in a rut ever since his divorce.

Moreover, he avoids people, skips social events, and generally says “no” to life. That changes when he attends a self-help seminar that challenges him to say “yes” to everything.

What starts as a joke quickly snowballs into a lifestyle and leads him on wild adventures – and even into love. Along the way, he meets Allison (played by Zooey Deschanel), who’s a singer and photographer.

The two bond over impulsive choices, scooter rides, and breaking into the Hollywood Bowl for a secret concert moment.

Alexander appears in a supporting role as Peter’s (Bradley Cooper) fiancée, Lucy. While her role was brief, it added a good amount of quirkiness to the entire story. Apart from all the good things, the movie also dives into how saying “yes” blindly can lead to trouble, especially when Carl’s new behavior gets him flagged by the FBI.

But like any good rom-com, Yes Man finds its way back to love and, of course, clarity.

So, while the movie hit theatres nearly two decades ago, it still feels quite relevant today. And for Sasha Alexander fans, it’s a fun reminder of her early screen days before she became Special Agent Kate Todd in NCIS.

Yes Man may not have impressed all critics, but when it came to audiences, the movie was a clear winner. The 2008 comedy found massive success at the box office and earned more than $223 million worldwide (via Box Office Mojo). That’s more than what the actor made with Fun with Dick and Jane, though still a bit behind Bruce Almighty.

Not only this, but Yes Man also opened strong, taking the No. 1 spot in both the US and UK during its release weekend. And while some critics felt the movie’s story was similar to Liar Liar, it received a 45% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

However, reviewers like Rene Rodriguez from The Miami Herald praised the movie for its heartwarming love story, saying that it can make anyone laugh and feel good at the same time.

Even Roger Ebert noted via RobertEbert.com that Carrey gave it his all, even if the movie didn’t let him fully shine. But despite the divided reviews, Yes Man managed to strike the right chord with the public. And because of that, it still remains a commercial hit that fans continue to enjoy today.

You can currently watch Yes Man in the USA on Apple TV.
