KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Police Commissioner, Lieutenant-General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi, has been appointed to a new national role tasked with spearheading the fight against organised crime.
Despite this expanded responsibility, he will retain his position as the top cop in KwaZulu-Natal.
Mkhwanazi announced the deployment on the sidelines of the launch of the new SAPS Forensic Laboratory in Durban.
He acknowledged the significant workload ahead, noting that he will need to divide his time between his provincial duties and coordinating national efforts to dismantle criminal networks.
Reflecting on the practicality of the arrangement, Mkhwanazi indicated that the feasibility of managing both roles simultaneously will be evaluated as the project progresses.
For now, he remains firmly at the helm of the KwaZulu-Natal police force, even as his strategic influence expands nationwide.
