All five bodies of miners who were trapped underground at the Ekapa Mine in Kimberley have been recovered.
This follows the retrieval of two bodies on Sunday, 22 March 2026, bringing the death toll to five.
The group became trapped underground during a catastrophic mudslide.
The first body was retrieved last Monday, with two more brought to the surface on Sunday morning. The final bodies were recovered in the early hours of Monday morning, 23 March 2026.
The tragedy, which occurred last month, led to the suspension of operations at the Kimberley-based mine.
The diamond mine, which employed over 1,000 workers, has since applied for liquidation, leaving many miners without jobs and unpaid salaries.
