  • The DA has nominated Khathutshelo Rasilingwane as its mayoral candidate to challenge ANC governance in Ekurhuleni.
  • Her platform focuses on merit-based appointments, crushing institutional “capture,” and restoring basic services like water and electricity.
  • The plan aims to revive the city’s logistics hub by cutting red tape and attracting investment through stabilised infrastructure.

The Democratic Alliance (DA) has officially named Khathutshelo Rasilingwane as its mayoral candidate for Ekurhuleni.

Positioning the upcoming local elections as a “watershed moment,” Gauteng leader Solly Msimanga asserted that Rasilingwane is the key to dismantling years of ANC-led corruption and administrative collapse in the region.

In her acceptance speech, Rasilingwane pledged a zero-tolerance approach to the “capture” of public institutions.

She highlighted the dire state of the municipality, citing prolonged water shortages in Tembisa, chronic power outages in Kempton Park, and the “harrowing” corruption allegations surfaced by the Madlanga Commission.

She specifically pointed to the SAAME building scandal, where costs reportedly escalated from R47 million to over R300 million without completion.

Rasilingwane vowed to replace what she termed the “doomsday coalition” with a professional administration.

Her immediate mandate includes stabilising the power grid, ensuring consistent refuse collection, and repairing the city’s hazardous road network.
