With the end nearing, Multichoice has announced that the popular video-on-demand streaming service, Showmax will now have a new home.

This means that you will not miss out on any of your favourite shows once the streaming service shuts down.

“Showmax is starting a new chapter, and your favourite shows are getting a shiny new home on DStv Stream.

Even better, they’ll be joining a bigger world of entertainment, all in one place,” said South African media company, MultiChoice, in a statement.

If you are a subscriber, you can continue watching and enjoying your favourite shows until 31st of March 2026.

However, if you are not a subscriber, your chance is only now, because on 01 April 2026, new subscriptions and renewals will no longer be accepted.

The media company said it will soon share how Showmax subscribers can continue enjoying the package on DStv Stream.

MultiChoice announced earlier this month that its popular video-on-demand streaming service will be discontinued, an announcement that was met with mixed reactions.

The discontinuation comes after the Showmax board made the decision to strengthen its digital offering and ensure long-term sustainability.

Showmax was first launched in South Africa in August 2015, targeting Africa as a major subscription video-on-demand market.

However, by the time French broadcaster Canal+ took over MultiChoice in 2025, the platform had already been flagged for its poor financial performance.
