  • Police have condemned the incident and warned that those involved will face the full might of the law.

Mpumalanga police are investigating a case of vigilantism and murder after three people were reportedly killed by members of the community in Kwaggafontein earlier this week.

“Police noticed community members assaulting three people who were driving in a Toyota RunX and a VW Polo. Police discovered that the victims were severely assaulted and summoned paramedics. The victims were certified dead at the scene. No arrests have been made yet and the investigation is underway,” said police spokesperson Mavela Masondo.

The motive behind the killings remains unclear at this point as police investigations continue.

Provincial Police Commissioner Zeph Mkhwanazi has slammed these actions, saying people do not have the right to take the law into their own hands.

He assured that people who continue to engage in acts of vigilantism will face the full might of the law.

“We strongly condemn acts of vigilantism in our province. Taking the law into your own hands will not be tolerated and it constitutes a serious criminal offence. The community is expected to report criminal activities to the police so that crime can be solved through lawful means,” said Mkhwanazi.

The search for the suspects is underway.
