REMINDER: How much SA motorists will pay for fuel from TODAY

The Department of Petroleum and Mineral Resources confirmed the official fuel price adjustments which took effect at midnight on Tuesday, 3 March.

Motorists will face higher fuel costs following a sharp increase in global oil prices during February.

Oil Price Spike

Oil prices traded significantly higher last month amid escalating geopolitical tensions in the Middle East, particularly between the United States and Iran.

Over the weekend, the US and Israel launched attacks on Iran, further heightening market volatility.

As a result, oil prices surged from below $60 per barrel to well above $80 per barrel during February, with much of the increase occurring toward the end of the month.

While the rand showed resilience against the US dollar, it was not sufficient to offset the impact of the rising oil price on local fuel recoveries.

Official Adjustments

From Wednesday, motorists can expect the following increases:

• Petrol: Up by 20 cents per litre
• Diesel (0.05% sulphur): Up by 62 cents per litre
• Diesel (0.005% sulphur): Up by 65 cents per litre

The latest adjustments come as households and businesses continue to navigate elevated transport and logistics costs, with fuel prices remaining highly sensitive to global geopolitical developments and currency fluctuations.

2. The rand/dollar exchange rate used in the purchase of these products

At the time of publishing the brent crude oil price is $82.96 a barrel.

Exchange rate

At the time of publishing the rand/dollar exchange rate is R16.35/$.
