  • SAWS has issued warnings for heavy rainfall in five provinces, including Gauteng and North West.
  • A Yellow Level 2 warning could lead to localised flooding and infrastructure damage.
  • Parts of the Northern Cape are also under a Yellow Level 1 warning for damaging winds.

The South African Weather Service (SAWS) has warned of the possibility of heavy rainfall in five provinces, including Gauteng and North West.

SAWS has also issued a Yellow Level 2 warning in some of the affected provinces, which could result in localised flooding and damage to infrastructure and settlements.

The affected areas include North West, the southern parts of Gauteng, the northwestern parts of KwaZulu-Natal, the southern Highveld and escarpment of Mpumalanga, and the northern parts of the Free State.

In Gauteng, residents can expect cloudy skies on Saturday morning, becoming partly cloudy and cool to warm, with scattered afternoon thundershowers, isolated in the north.

In Kwazulu-Natal there will be morning fog patches in places over the interior; however, the weather conditions will be fine to partly cloudy and warm to hot, but very hot in places in the north.

And in the Cape provinces, it will be partly cloudy and warm to hot with isolated showers and thundershowers.

Furthermore, a Yellow Level 1 warning has been issued for damaging winds that could affect settlements and temporary structures in the southeastern parts of the Northern Cape.
