  • Five SASSA officials have been dismissed over fraud and corruption allegations at the Johannesburg office.
  • The dismissals follow earlier arrests and an ongoing R4.9 million social grant fraud investigation.
  • SASSA says it will not tolerate corruption and has warned that all services are free of charge.

Five officials from the South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) have been dismissed over allegations of corruption and fraud at its Johannesburg local office.

The dismissals come after eight officials based at the same office were arrested and charged with fraud-related offences last year.

SASSA spokesperson Paseka Letsatsi said while five officials have been dismissed, the remaining three cases are at an advanced stage and are pending the verdict of the presiding officers.

The case also comes as four other officials from the agency were arrested earlier this week in connection with an alleged R4.9 million social grant fraud scheme.

The suspects were arrested on Tuesday, 24 February 2026, following an extensive investigation into the unlawful processing and approval of social grants.

“The related criminal case remains ongoing before the courts.

The dismissal of five officials implicated in this matter sends a clear and unequivocal message that SASSA will not tolerate fraud or corruption in any form. Accountability is non-negotiable, and any official found guilty of misconduct will face decisive consequences,” said Letsatsi.

Letsatsi further emphasised that all SASSA services are provided free of charge.
