MANILA, Philippines — Today marks the third day of the confirmation of charges hearing in the crimes against humanity case against former President Rodrigo Duterte before the International Criminal Court.
- Prosecutors have laid out their arguments seeking to establish substantial grounds to believe Duterte is responsible for thousands of killings linked to his anti-drug campaign.
- Duterte will not attend the remaining sessions after the chamber granted his request to be excused from appearing.
- The hearing is meant to determine whether there is sufficient evidence to move the case to trial. It is not a determination of guilt or innocence. Judges have up to 60 days after the conclusion of the hearing to issue their ruling.
- ICC prosecutors have charged Duterte with three counts of crimes against humanity, alleging his involvement in at least 76 murders committed between 2013 and 2018.
