MANILA, Philippines — The International Criminal Court goes on Day 2 of the confirmation of charges hearing on the crimes against humanity case of former President Rodrigo Duterte today, Feb. 24.
- Duterte will skip the sessions following the chamber’s granting of his request.
- The hearing will allow ICC judges to assess whether there is sufficient evidence to establish substantial grounds to believe Duterte committed the crimes charged; it is not yet a trial on guilt or innocence, and judges will have up to 60 days after the hearing to issue their decision.
- ICC prosecutors have charged Duterte with three counts of crimes against humanity, alleging his involvement in at least 76 murders between 2013 and 2018.
