Synopsis
In the late 1970s, Zhuang Xianjin, a factory worker raising two sons and a daughter, marries Su Xiaoman, an actress from a song-and-dance troupe who has a son and a daughter of her own. The children from both families harbor mixed feelings, and together with their parents, they unfold an emotional saga spanning three decades.
The eldest daughter, Zhuang Haohao, who has taken on family responsibilities since childhood, becomes the emotional anchor of the blended household. From working as a tram ticket seller to becoming a resident singer of revolutionary songs at a dance hall, she grows resiliently—like a wildflower blooming atop a mountain—standing shoulder to shoulder with her family and always reaching toward the light.
Zhuang Xianjin finally fulfills his dream of naming his children after his lifelong motto, “Study well and make progress every day.” Yet Zhuang Xiangshang, the son who embodies that dream, becomes an unspoken “secret” between Zhuang Haohao and Su Xiaoman.
Meanwhile, Zhuang Xuexi and Wang Yuanyuan were once childhood classmates and close companions, but after their parents’ marriage binds their families together, they are forced to drift apart. Liu Cheng, Zhuang Xianjin’s apprentice, fails in his pursuit of Zhuang Haohao, only to later marry Su Xiaoman’s daughter instead.
