PAMALAKAYA opposes Sara presidential bid

THE fisherfolk organization Pambansang Lakas ng Kilusang Mamamalakaya ng Pilipinas (PAMALAKAYA) has voiced strong opposition to the reported 2028 presidential bid of Vice President Sara Duterte, citing allegations of graft and plunder linked to the alleged misuse of public funds.

In a statement, PAMALAKAYA national chairperson Fernando Hicap said the group “explicitly rejects” another Duterte presidency, claiming the vice president faces serious accusations involving hundreds of millions of pesos in confidential funds that, according to the group, should have been allocated to social programs benefiting marginalized sectors such as fisherfolk.

“Mahirap sikmurain. Hindi namin kailanman matatanggap ang isa na namang Duterte sa Malacanang dahil sa patong-patong nitong kasalanan sa mamamayan. Partikular kay Sara Duterte, daan-daang milyon ang nilustay nito para sa kwestyunableng confidential funds, na dapat sana ay nagamit sa mga makabuluhang programa para sa mga naghihirap na sektor tulad ng mangingisda,” Hicap said.

Hicap described Duterte’s supposed election bid as a “desperate move” aimed at avoiding accountability over the allegations, urging the public to reject her candidacy and to support calls for her removal from office and prosecution.

The organization further said the announcement of a presidential run was an affront to Filipinos, arguing that it reflects deep flaws in the country’s political system that allow officials facing controversies to seek higher office.

PAMALAKAYA also linked its criticism to public dissatisfaction stemming from the administration of former president Rodrigo Duterte, saying many citizens continue to bear the consequences of past policies and governance issues.

According to the group, allowing another Duterte to seek leadership at Malacañang Palace underscores what it described as a political system dominated by entrenched and controversial figures.
