- Several roads around FNB Stadium will be closed on 18 February 2026 ahead of the Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns match.
- A contraflow system will be implemented on Nasrec Road to ease traffic before and after the game.
- Motorists are urged to arrive early and use alternative routes to avoid heavy congestion.
Certain roads will be closed in Johannesburg on Wednesday ahead of the soccer match between the Soweto giants, Orlando Pirates and Betway Premiership champions Mamelodi Sundowns.
The Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD) says roads around the FNB Stadium precinct will be affected on Wednesday, 18 February 2026.
JMPD spokesperson Xolani Fihla says a contraflow traffic management system will be in place on Nasrec Road to facilitate smoother movement.
“It will be active from the N17 traffic circle to Shaft 17 Road on the northern side of the stadium, and from Adcock Ingram Road to Recreation Road on the southern side. The system will provide additional lanes towards the stadium before the match (ingress) and additional lanes away from the stadium after the game (egress),” said Fihla.
Road closures will be implemented at 18:00. Spectators are strongly advised to arrive as early as possible to allow ample time to find parking and avoid being caught in traffic disruptions during the implementation of road closures.
Specific road closures and traffic diversions include:
- Soweto Highway: Closed to general traffic between the N1 bridge and Mentz Street in Booysens. This route will be reserved for Rea Vaya bus services.
- Nasrec Road: Affected between Shaft 17 and Recreation Road.
- Public transport: Spectators using public transport will be dropped off at the transportation hub on Landbou Road.
- Egress specifics: During egress, Adcock Ingram Road will be closed to prevent traffic from moving towards the stadium. Similarly, Aerodrome Road will be closed to push traffic away from the venue more efficiently.
Road users should expect heavy traffic and disruptions on the following routes:
- Nasrec Road (between Rifle Range Road and Main Reef Road).
- Randshow Road (between Nasrec Road and the N1 North on-ramp).
- Golden Highway (between Rand Show Road and Soweto Highway).
- N17 (between Nasrec Road and the N1 North on-ramp).
- M1 (South and North) and N1 (South and North).
- Booysens Reserve Road (between Crownwood Road and Nasrec Road).
To avoid the FNB Stadium precinct, motorists are encouraged to use the N1, M1 and N12 highways, as well as Main Reef Road, Aerodrome Road and Adcock Ingram Road.
JMPD officers will be deployed and stationed at key intersections to ensure the safety of pedestrians, enforce traffic regulations and assist with traffic flow.
