SABC 1 and the production company behind Generations: The Legacy, Morula Pictures, have announced the introduction of an IsiNdebele-speaking character for the first time in the show’s history.
The character, Nomasebe, is set to debut on the popular soapie on Friday, 20 February 2026, and will be played by newcomer Makgomo Mahlangu.
According to a statement released by the SABC on Tuesday, 17 February, Nomasebe is described as a fiery and stubborn character who is deeply rooted in her beliefs. She is also a fighter who stands up for women’s issues.
“She must always win. Always right. She has become violent and physically fights with her boyfriend,” the statement read.
This comes fresh off the heels of recent controversy surrounding SABC 1’s leading soapie, Skeem Saam.
The soapie faced backlash after announcing that former The River actor Lunga Mofokeng was joining the cast as Mr Q.
Fans expressed concern over the increasing casting of isiZulu and Sotho actors on the show, after Mofokeng confirmed that he would be speaking Sesotho and Setswana.
They took to social media to say that the inclusion of other languages on the primarily Sepedi show was diluting Pedi culture and language.
Also joining Generations: The Legacy are Ayanda Daweti, who will play the role of Mzimkhulu Ntlokwana, and Pholoso Mohlala as Kagiso Moremi.
