Solo travel continues to surge in 2026, with women leading the global trend.
According to new research, 84% of solo travellers are female, while around 65% of women in the United States have taken a holiday without their partner. The findings reflect a growing shift toward independent travel experiences, cultural exploration and personal growth.
A new global index has now ranked the best cities for women travelling solo, based on safety, connectivity and convenience.

The index analysed 50 international cities and ranked the top 20 based on crime perception and safety scores, broadband speeds, solo travel search trends and public transport efficiency.

The Southeast Asian city-state is known for low crime levels, efficient public transport and fast broadband speeds.
New York City placed second overall, reflecting strong search interest for solo travel alongside solid transport connectivity and safety metrics compared to other major global cities.
Dubai ranked third, scoring particularly well for safety and digital connectivity.
The index suggests that women travelling alone are prioritising destinations that offer perceived safety and low crime rates, as well as reliable public transport. Strong internet connectivity was also a factor.
