American actor James Van Der Beek has died at the age of 48 following a battle with colon cancer.
According to the BBC, Van Der Beek was diagnosed with colon cancer in 2023 but only publicly revealed his diagnosis in 2024.
His family confirmed his passing in a statement shared on social media on Wednesday, 11 February 2026.
“Our beloved James David Van Der Beek passed peacefully this morning. He met his final days with courage, faith, and grace. There is much to share regarding his wishes, love for humanity, and the sacredness of time.
“Those days will come. For now, we ask for peaceful privacy as we grieve our loving husband, father, son, brother, and friend,” the statement read.
Van Der Beek was best known for his role as Dawson Leery in the hit 1998 American television series Dawson’s Creek.
He is survives by his wife Kimberly and six children.
