Skeem Saam has officially cemented its status as a titan of South African television, reaching a monumental milestone of 4.5 million viewers.

The SABC 1 drama’s surge in popularity comes on the heels of a high-stakes storyline that saw the Maputla brothers fighting for survival in a desert after a harrowing plane crash a narrative arc that left the nation breathless and glued to their screens.

Central to this success is Hungani Ndlovu, who portrays Thabo Maputla.

Reflecting on the show’s record-breaking week, Ndlovu bypassed personal limelight to shine a light on the collective effort behind the camera.

He expressed deep gratitude for the “unseen heroes” from the drivers starting their shifts before sunrise to the catering, makeup, and technical crews who build the world of Turfloop before the actors even step into frame.

The actor described the privilege of storytelling in South Africa as a “joy,” praising his co-stars for their generosity and the audience for welcoming these characters into their homes.

“To my co-stars…thank you for the generosity, the play, the trust. What a privilege to tell stories with you, not just alongside you.

Over 4.5 million people this past week… I for one, don’t take that lightly. Thank you to the audience for welcoming these stories into your homes.” wrote Hungani Ndlovu
