THE Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) yesterday announced that 10 operators of public utility vehicles (PUVs) will be summoned through a show-cause order as part of the ongoing crackdown against dilapidated units.
This came after recent random, surprise inspections at bus and jeepney terminals found them unkempt and untidy, with PUV drivers not in proper uniforms.
LTFRB chairperson Atty. Vigor Mendoza II said this should serve as a strong message that the leadership of Transportation Secretary Giovanni Lopez is serious in running after run-down PUVs and terminals with not-so-presentable facilities.
On Tuesday, a team of LTFRB inspectors conducted ocular inspections along West Avenue, Fernando Poe Jr. Avenue, and Roosevelt in Quezon City, where they spotted 10 passenger jeepneys parked on the roadside.
Mendoza said this was proof that there was no designated garage for the passenger jeepneys, a clear violation of the Memorandum Circular (MC) No. 2017-027.
A separate team was sent to Eton Centris in Quezon City, where the terminal operator was reminded to improve facilities to ensure passenger safety and comfort.
A total of 87 bus and PUV terminals have already been issued an SCO and a notice of violation nationwide as the LTFRB intensified its campaign against run-down PUVs and terminals.
